Lillias August is a member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colour (RI) whose annual exhibition is held at the Mall Galleries in London and where she has won several awards since becoming a member in 2006. In 2017 she has had two paintings accepted for the prestigious Sunday Times Watercolour Competition.
Lillias has lived in East Anglia for thirty years. Having originally come from the far more manicured Cotswolds, she has always admired the wide-open landscape of the fens and its flat horizons. For the last five years she has been concentrating on still life painting, occasionally returning to landscape as described below:
My more recent still life painting has manifested itself in rows of everyday objects laid out as if for inspection. I have no doubt that this analytical approach was influenced by the open and regimented landscape of the fens where the flat horizon is constantly in front of you and where things stand out like props on a stage and catch the eye. My recent landscape paintings have given me the opportunity to revisit this influential 'friend' and recharge my batteries
